SEENAH Jumble Sale
Purpose
Serve various communities through
creating a platform to sell used items.
This platform offers opportunities for ASD families to participate in
direct community service and for students to lead and make a difference.
Communities
The ripple effect of the Jumble Sale impact is vast. Communities within ASD, communities in
Dubai, as well as communities outside Dubai benefit from this event. (Appendix 1).
ASD Students (HS
& MS)
Over 30 SEENAH students (MS and HS) actively participated in
the collection, sorting, scheduling, publicity and ultimate sale of used and
unwanted items for the SEENAH Jumble Sale. Students were also given the opportunity to perform—and they
did an amazing job. Students also
donated baked goods for sale in the café.
ASD Community
As we live in a transient community full of changes, the
Jumble Sale offers a great venue to donate or sell unwanted items both
individually through renting tables or by donating to SEENAH, knowing that the
proceeds will go to a good cause.
In addition, those looking for bargains will definitely find some.
DUBAI Helpers and
Staff
Many of the helpers and staff work hand to mouth. They send most of their income home and
whatever is left is minimal. The
Jumble Sale gives customers the opportunity to purchase quality items at a
steal. Books, toys, clothing and
especially electronics are popular purchases.
Charities
In collaboration with Kit out Kids, SEENAH collected
blankets and warm clothing which were donated directly to Syrian refugee camps
to help women and children through the winter months.
In addition, the SEENAH community service club voted for a
60/40 split of funds where 60% is given to the Masooli School projects and 40%
is given to a project in Palestine.
Timing
This year, the Jumble Sale was scheduled in December to
service the primary customers (Dubai Helpers and Staff) before Christmas so
that gifts could be sent to their children and loved ones in their home
countries.
